"At the centre of it all is Ben Probert, delivering an exceptional lead performance without dialogue. This is physical, emotional acting stripped down to its rawest form. Probert carries the film through voiceless expression, movement, and presence alone, showing impressive range and control. It is a performance that demands attention and rewards it. It proves how powerful horror can be when an actor fully commits to internalised fear and isolation"

Robert W Monk
"This is also thanks to Ben Probert’s excellent performance as Eddie, conveying the new worker’s turbulent inner world with intense looks of anguish or shy smiles as he discovers new experiences"

Carl Marshall
"Probert's outstanding performance as a mute, entirely communicating by non-verbal means is nothing short of impeccable - his portrayal of this debilitating disability is entirely convincing"

Nick Bartlett
"With a breathtaking central performance from Ben Probert. Probert’s non-verbal portrayal of Eddie’s fragility is nuanced and never gimmicky. Eddie is a man defined by trauma, and Probert beautifully conveys this without a word"

William Hemingway
"This is all helped, too, by an outstanding performance from lead, Ben Probert as Eddie. He is supported greatly by all those whom he shares the screen with, as they inhabit and breathe life into their characters in a believable way, but it is Probert’s quiet strength and subtlety in his performance that really imbues The Caretaker with the heart and humanity it needs to carry its deep and affecting themes. With a raise of an eyebrow, or a scared, searching look, Probert communicates more than any words could have allowed, as he invites us to search his face for meaning and past trauma while Eddie traverses his troubles. His heartfelt scribblings, emotional signings, and charged statement cards, are all used sparingly enough to imbue them with real significance, and when paired with Probert’s understated characterisation, everything takes on a deep level of engagement which encourages the audience to pay even more close attention"

"The film’s architecture relies on the lead performance. Ben Probert steadies The Caretaker through the power of his stillness. As Eddie, the mute center of the film, he defines the emotional line of the narrative. Probert maps fragility, trauma, and bruised dignity with delicate control, using slight turns of the eyes, careful posture, and the most economical shifts in expression"

"Ben Probert carries the whole thing with sheer presence as Eddie. Playing a mute lead isn’t easy, but he does it all with his eyes, his posture, and a kind of wounded dignity. It’s great work, and the glue that holds the story together"

Lili Garman
"Despite having no lines of dialogue, this doesn’t act as a barrier to getting to know him. Through Ben Probert’s gripping performance, we understand Eddie and see every emotion he’s feeling without the need for words. He’s an interesting protagonist with a real underdog feel. You really want him to thrive"

Richard Propes
"Probert himself, while giving a masterful performance, also shows up in credits as an executive producer, set decorator, first assistant director, art department, sound department, location manager, and props. Ah, I love indie cinema"

"The performances in “The Caretaker” are nothing short of stellar. Each actor brings depth to their character, making the audience feel their struggles and triumphs. The titular caretaker, Eddie is a complex character grappling with his demons while trying to provide support to those around him. His portrayal captures the essence of compassion intertwined with personal turmoil"
